Recently, I realised the term “self help” was really begininnig to irritate me a bit. Its just about 5 years since I purchased my first official “self-help book” – the 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership by John C Maxwell. That book really did change my life and signaled the start of my Journey to learn the wisdom of the ages…. I might be a bit of philosopher myself may i will write a book too! We’ll see!
Back to this term “self help books”. The more I think about it the more I really don’t get. If I read a book to learn on leadership, personal management or on entrepreneurship. It is deemed that I am reading a self help book. Alrite its about me taking the initiative to help myself….
Alrite so if someone buys a book to learn more on graphic design that is not considered a self help book? This is puzzling to me.
Why are certain subject areas labelled as “self help” and others are not? I wonder what this reveals about our great society?
Does it mean many of us believe that some skills can’t be developed an refined?
self help or self development…i prefer to use the term self development cause for me i am always looking to develop my skills and acquire more knowledge not really looking for help per say but for development lol thats just my two cents for the day.
