Its with great pleasure that I announce to you my dear readers and subscribers that I am the now the Social Media Director of a brand new intra-regional ferry. And it is going to operating in the islands just in time for the Summer Carnivals!! Yes, Yes you know if I had anything to do with its got to start with some good parties.
Its been my best kept secret for the past 2 years! I wanted to be sure about this project before I said anything. The ferry has been tested in waters similar to those of our beloved Caribbean Sea and it has passed all the necessary tests. After a few test runs in the Caribbean during the month of April, we hope to announce a June date for the start of the service.
We are pushing the envelope on this project for sure. Our ticketing will be done almost exclusively online. We have been able to secure tentative confirmation from several regional banks to support online payments for tickets directly from your bank accounts using their online banking systems. Its sounds too good to be true right? … I know. You see many of the commercial banks are excited about this as is it will encourage more of their customers become familiar with and trust the online banking system. Its a win, win for everyone.
Shocked? I know me too – pinch yourself! I know I am still doing it.
What the hell is a Social Media Director going to do ?
Now this new 'entity' which you will learn the name of later…its going to be a hell of a launch is all I can say at the moment. I digress. The excitement is so bubbling over….
Alrite, so let me get back on track, this initiative was really born out of social media. Let me explain, everyone involved in the project are passionate about social media and passionate about the Caribbean and enabling authentic Caribbean connections to happen.
Well let me just make it clear that social media has been going on for hundreds of years. The internet and its tools, facebook, twitter and other social networks only facilitate more of the same connections we have been making for hundreds of years. They have been able to connect the world and for that we love them alot. However, this group of ambitious Internet minded Caribbean entrepreneurs decided they wanted to do more. It soon became obvious to us that creating real life interactions between Caribbean People was the best way to go. The Bedy Ferry which was announced late last year has been one of the most search for terms in the Caribbean. Its clear the market is already begging for cheap travel between our beloved islands. On my blog alone its become a chore to respond to the flood of email requesting more information on the Bedy Travel Ferry.
To get back to the initial question..What does the Social Media Director do? The social media director is responsible for making sure that this ferry service helps to facilitate real human connections. I am to ensure that the activities and events in the different islands are well publicized. Its about bringing persons of like mind together. People who are passionate about anything, sports, culture, business, entertainment, manufacturing, science. You name it. I am to foster regional integration and connection between people. No that does not mean I am pushing for inter-regional marriages, I aint Cupid. lol. Seriously though, its to make sure that where possible Caribbean people can connect with each other and share their passions with other Caribbean people.
And the rest they say will be history this coming June!
Truth be told, this is my way of saying happy april fools to you. I know, I know. You are not a fool, but then again are you? As a Caribbean person whoever you are, is so far fetched to imagine this being a reality?
If this post has moved you in any way – you leave a comment – not for me but for a vision of a more connected Caribbean people. You really don't know who is watching.
