Merry Christmas to you wherever you are in the world!
It's been tough times for us in Barbados over the past few months. We have had our share of unexpected challenges tossed our way. There are 2 of them that will that really stand out on a day like this for me. The death of our prime minister coupled with the destruction of Tropical Storm/Hurricane Tomas stand out because they both highlighted it is the idea of family. One of the things David Thompson left us with was this idea of Family First. It's not something he preached but something he lived. Tropical Storm/Hurricane Tomas took us totally by surprise and cause some of the worse destruction we have ever seen. In the moments we were cut off from the outside world with limited electricity and phone service, we were again reminded of family. We all desperately wanted to know that our family was ok.
This Christmas I encourage you to take some time to focus on your family. Having been to a funeral of a family member this week, It's noticeable that it is not often that we gather as a large family unit and quite often funerals become the main event of any major family gathering.
Today, take time to appreciate your family and make this day all about them. I know there some of your who have mixed feelings about Christmas day, but use today as the "BIG EXCUSE" to appreciate your family.
David Thompson's legacy it will be this.
