One of the big misconceptions of my exploits as a blogger is that my interest is self-serving. I understand that the URL is my name and yes, "the dude actually has a logo" lol, talking about this always makes me smile. It does because if you spend any time around me you would know that I am very pro-Caribbean in my outlook and I am always willing to share my knowledge to help out a situation.

Now for me, CoreyKGraham.Me is my "portal to the world". I see it as a domain where I can share my thoughts, ideas and experiences with the world. It is my hope that these posts will move the world forward, however small. My greatest pleasure actually comes when one of my blog posts helps people who I would not normally touch make more informed decisions, whether it is with their marketing strategy or their next smartphone purchase. My drive is to help others and to do my part to enhance this world.

Having said all of that I want to invite you to become a member of my site and subscribe to my newsletter so that I can continue to share with you. To be quite honest my decision to do this membership / subscribe to my newsletter drive is to set up the platform to offer freebies and discounts to you as the opportunity arises. I'll so no more you decide if its of value to you.

Alrite so get involved,

Keep Your Important Files Safe & Always Available

As our world becomes more and more digitally driven, more and more of our work is stored digitally. At the moment I am sure that many of you still keep your most prized works in one location. You might have your accounts, budgets, quotes, proposals, videos, plans, mind maps all on one system and in one place. The problem with this is that the day your pc / jump drive crashes, it sets you back by a mile. I know this from personal experience … from several personal experiences.

Do You Work Between 2 Computers? Imagine Having Your File Always Available

Isn't it very annoying to not be able to access a critical document for a particular project when you really want it? Imagine you are in a groove, getting some work done and you just realized you have to stop because the information you need is on some computer no where near you.

The Solution

I have been using SugarSync for a while now and its been fantastic for me. It allows me to have what I call a "working online back up for my files.

  • It is an online backup facility for my most critical documents, logos, ideas, proposals etc.
  • I love that I can set up folders to automatically be uploaded to the internet. As long as the computer has an internet connection and something new is saved in a folder, its automatically uploaded online.
  • Online Access to documents anywhere in the world via your browser. The coolest thing is that it will make an automatic gallery for your photos, to make it easy to view / share with others. It will also allow you to stream any music or audio files you upload.
  • Folders Automatically sync across all computers you use – basically you can set up special folders that will automatically sync all folders in the different computers you use. Basically if you update a folder on your home pc, when you get on to ur laptop online the folder on the laptop will automatically download all the changes to that folder.

Try it here – you can get 2 GB Free! And I got something specially for you, if you open your account today you will get 250 MB free.

Sharing 2.0 – Take Time … Feel Good

Photography By Corey Graham 2.0

Its important that we share.

I wanted to leave you with this thought as you get started on the final day of the work week. We speak of sharing constantly these days. Especially, since the advent of facebook and social media. We are constantly sharing photos, videos, thoughts and ideas with each other via the worldwide web. This level of sharing has never been seen before in the history of mankind!
Stop for a few moments and appreciate just how big sharing have become in this 2.0 world.

@ShanzBarhopper reminded me on twitter today of a moment in time about 2 years ago when I shared a simple concept with her. Not my brainchild but a philosophy that totally I buy into :-

Don't work HARD – Work SMART

She mentioned that this thought did was a huge help in her getting through some rough times. My act of sharing helped her to reach to the point that she is at today. This was a very real reminder for me of just how important and impactful sharing can be for others!

That's where this post is coming from!

Fear is not good for sharing …

Scared. Yes you, Are you scared to share? You never seem to find the right time to what you have to say?
Sometimes we get very scared to express the things we are feeling inside us. When expression is combined with the act of sharing, the power created can heal you and strengthen your spirit. You will also grow wiser as you get different perspectives on the thoughts and ideas you have in your head. Your mind gets stretched beyond its usual bounds and wisdom falls upon you.

I know that my blog posts have inspired and sparked ideas in others and for that I am most grateful.

I ended up writing a blog post after that situation - Give Yourself Permission To … Work SMART. @ShanzBarhopper only stumbled upon today  check out her comment and see what she had to say.

On that note, take time to truly share and feel good for helping others around you.

Google Analytics Updates – Just Released!!! Caribbean Website Owners Smile

Feedback is important and important too in every day life. It helps us to know what is working and what is not working and it helps to understand those around us. Those of you who are serious about your websites or blogs know this oh too well especially if you are interested in making cash from them.

Just for you here  are some of the latest updates to Google Analytics. This post will still be very eye-opening for any of you who are in business.

You are now able to to track engagement goals, time on site and pages per visit. Now for those of you who are not familiar, time on site is the amount of time a vistor spends on a site and pages per visit is the number of pages a visitor viewed on a particular visit. As you can imagine both of these would give a website owner great insight to how visitors are interacting with their site. Having the ability to now set goals kinds of goals I believe is a big deal for any Caribbean website owner, or any website owner targeting persons in the Caribbean market. As we are are all just learning and immersing ourselves in the online world. Website owners targeting the Caribbean Market much play close attention to how people are interacting with their site and work smart.  Setting these engagement goals will give tremendous insight to how people are using your site. Having been the content manager for BoomTribe.com I know how difficult it is to have a million things to add to your site and still have to find the hours to really study and understand your analytics. This is like a breathe of fresh air.

In a similar way, google is making it easier for website owners and bloggers to get alerts highlighting variations from the expected trend or changes to the website. This will be also useful in alerting you when something might have gone wrong on your site, when a page stops loading or there is a problem with a particular link.

The Marketing/Advertising Challenge On The Information Highway In The Caribbean

Photography by Corey Graham 2.0

The shot above is of Paul "The Surfer" Bourne’s WRC Impreza which did alot of damage in back in Rally Barbados 2007. I am wondering when will Marketing/Advertising in the Caribbean do its damage while speeding along the Information Highway.

I spent the last week on a bit of a vacation and allowing myself to deeper explore the world of online advertising. We are consistently hearing that online is the way to go. The Association of Internet Junkies of the Caribbean stand together and proclaim that TV, Radio and the Newspapers are dying media and we should all switch to online. New Media, Social Media and Google Ads are some of the options you are hearing about for the advertisers who live among us.

Many content providers like myself are imagining the days of plenty when our main problem will be trying to keep all the different advertisers beating down our door at bay. We are also all convicted and fiercely loyal to information highway.
We know very well that there is no shortage of examples of people have been able to leverage the internet and expand and grow their businesses beyond what they can even imagine.

I want to ask you a question this Monday morning. Is that indeed our reality? If I were to give you a reasonable budget and a pretty decent product. Do you think you could make it pop by doing strictly online marketing? Honestly? Serious question?

Hmm? There is doubt? By why?

Alrite if there is doubt then that means we still have some way to go. Tell me then when do you think we will reach that critical point that we can activate a full fledged transition to online?

We have to really think about this. Let me add something into the the fray now. As I look around I see alot of webmasters and other internet folk embarking on a wide array of websites targeted at Caribbean people. I find that very few of them seem to be well thought out schemes to get Caribbean people more engaged online. Not many of the sites are to functional in terms of solving problems in day to day life.
Are any of the sites simply solving a real problem we might have?
We so many more smartphones in the hands of the average person now. Traffic reports? Public Transport Schedules?  Specialised searches – e.g. Plumbers in St. Lucia? Listings? I don’t see an overwhelming presence of these kinds of sites full of entrepreneurial initiative.

Think about it? What is the attitude we approach the internet with in the Caribbean by the average user? Just for fun? Sending emails for serious business?

Do we approach it with a confidence that will find what we are looking for? How much does it really factor in our day to day? How many people forget that they can use the online phone directory? Is the internet really a part of our thinking as a collective?

The interesting thing about marketing and advertising, content, media – they all have to co-exist. Well at least that is how they have worked so far in the history of the world. Its an eco system. The content providers provide content, and atttract an audience, then the advertisers help pay the bills of the content providers in exchange for reaching the audience. In an ideal world the people in the audience would be glad to see the ads, because it educates them on the products and services available out there, to make their life better.

Ads then are also content? On some level? Right?

Now here is the big question how many websites are providing top notch advertising content that people are in the habit of finding out new things?

And since its easier it breaks the habit of the beautiful ladies grabbing their shopping bag and heading to their shopping spot to learn of the latest sales and see what is on show?

Think about it?

How is Advertising and Marketing on the internet truly going to evolve. We know the companies are interested we know the web folk would love to have the cash.

How will it move from a few brave marketing managers trying new things into a standard and well developed process?

Well my 2 cents is when your buying culture evolves and habits like the one I described above are broken.

What say you?
